I create my art based on what is around me or inspiring me at the time, whether it is a view from an Adirondack hike or something that just catches my eye. I’ve been creating art since I was a kid, covering my driveway with chalk or illustrating stories I’d write.
Majoring in Art Studio at SUNY Geneseo exposed me to more mediums and techniques. There, I also took art history classes. Suddenly the poses of Degas and the moods of Hopper opened my eyes to new ideas. I took an oil painting class in Ireland one summer, where we focused on painting en plein air, studying mostly color and light.
My paintings now are created not only with oil, but with watercolor, pastel and egg tempera. I have been using looser strokes and focusing on edge treatment. With my photogtaphy I've been trying to not only capture a moment, but also beginnig to suggest a story.
